Description

The Regina Dominican Panther Track and Field team started in 1977 and competes in the GCAC for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The 2010 team has a new coaching staff led by Head Coach John Smith. Smith has over 20 years of coaching experience and is directing an enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff of coaches. The track and field team is looking to build upon a 2009 season where they captured their 1st IHSA Sectional Team Championship in school history and had IHSA Class 2A State Qualifiers in the 3200m Relay, Shot Put, Discus, 1600m Run, 100m High Hurdles, and the 300m Low Hurdles. Track and Field at Regina has a great history of success in the state of Illinois that includes winning 7 straight IHSA Sectional titles in the 3200m Relay from 1990-1996, taking 2nd place in the Class AA State Meet in 1993 in the 3200m relay, and Kristina Heinichen taking 2nd place in the State in 1993 in the 800m Run. Since 1989, the Panther Track and Field team has sent over 21 individuals and relays to the IHSA State Championship. Since 1991, the Panthers have brought home 12 IHSA Individual Event Sectional titles as well. Within the GCAC, the Panthers have also had recent success, securing  over 4 Individual GCAC titles in the last 4 years.
