The annual Regina Dominican Black and White Ball was held in the beautiful Hotel Orrington Ballroom on October 26th. The gorgeous rose centerpieces and the Paul Windsor Orchestra set the tone for a magnificent evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Heraclio Gomez, Maribeth Nesbitt, Class of 1969 and former staff member Katie Kunzer received the 2007 Regina Dominican Caeli Award which recognizes two graduate parents, an alumna and one member of the school personnel who have helped to develop and nurture the vision of Regina Dominican, a unique school for young women.
“All Regina Caeli Award recipients have given strong and faithful support to the life and mission of the school,” said Sister Adrienne Piennette, O.P., President of Regina Dominican, as she thanked the Honorees.
As Mr. Heraclio Gomez spoke in glowing terms about the school and about the quality education his daughters experienced through the years. He and his wife continue their investment to the school through their daughters, who volunteer their time and talents, as well as their presence at events, especially those involving granddaughter and Regina Dominican Senior, Katherine Nickele. Regina Dominican has been blessed to have their daughters, Mary Gomez Nickele, Class of 1978, Patricia Gomez, Class of 1984, and Julie Gomez Fernandez, Class of 1994. In memory of their daughter Patricia Astor Gomez, Class of 1984 the Gomez family offers an award to many students in financial need.
Sister Adrienne Piennette, O.P., President of Regina Dominican, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Heraclio Gomez for many years of dedication to the school, “They have shared with us that which is most precious: their daughters.”
Nearly 300 people attended the event. Ticket sales and the silent and live auctions generated $135,000 to further the mission of the Adrian Dominican Sisters at Regina Dominican College Preparatory Catholic School.
Heading the Black and White Ball Committee were Chairs Shannon and Eugene Kinsella ( Chicago-Lincoln Park), parents of Riley Kinsella (2009) and Co-chairs Clare and Richard Sabones ( Chicago- 60647), parents of Sylvie Sabones (2010).
“We are extraordinarily grateful to Shannon and Gene, Clare and Richard, as well as the entire Black and White Ball committee for their efforts on behalf of Regina Dominican,” said Director of Institutional Advancement, Stephanie Garrity. “The energy that evening was unparalleled!”
